Chunky applesauce is a sweet and simple dish that is great for dessert or an afternoon snack. We like to pair our chunky applesauce with potato latkes. Step 1. Combine Ingredients and Cook

In a heavy saucepan over medium heat, combine the apples and orange juice. Cook, stirring often, until the apples start to soften, about 10 minutes. Stir in the sugar, lemon zest and cinnamon and cook, uncovered, stirring as needed, until the apples are tender but still chunky, 20 to 25 minutes.

 

Step 2. Serve

Taste and adjust the seasonings and serve warm. Or cool, cover and refrigerate for up to 2 days. Rewarm before serving. Makes 4 to 5 cups.

 

How to Make Chunky Applesauce Without Sugar

To make sugar-free applesauce, you only need three ingredients: apples, water and cinnamon. Combine apples and water in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until apples soften. Stir in cinnamon and cook until apples are tender but still chunky.
