There are almost as many recipes for margaritas are there are aficionados of tequila. You’ll find them served up, blended with ice or made with a variety of fruits such as watermelon or mango. Here is a classic version of the drink, served on ice to keep it cold on warm summer evenings.

Ingredients

  • Coarse sea salt for the glasses
  • 1 lime wedge
  • 3 oz. (90 ml) white tequila
  • 1 oz. (30 ml) Cointreau or triple sec
  • 1 oz. (30 ml) fresh lime juice
  • 2 lime wheels for garnish (optional)

Directions

Spread the salt on a small plate. Moisten the rims of two small tumblers or two margarita glasses with the lime wedge. One at a time, invert the glasses onto the plate to coat the rims, then shake off any excess salt. Fill the glasses with ice.

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the tequila, Cointreau and lime juice. Shake vigorously for 15 seconds. Strain into the prepared glasses and garnish each glass with a lime wheel. Serve immediately. Makes 2 drinks.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good jumping off base I personally use lemon and lime, half a lime and quarter of a lemon per margarita. Anejo should be used with grand marnier and a silver should be used with Cointreau. To make it easy, I just top mine off with a little orange juice.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from very Strong The recipe makes a strong, tart margarita. A more balanced version is 2 oz blue agave tequila, 2 oz lime juice, 1 oz Cointreau, and half oz agave nectar.
