Trisha's Biscuits

Award-winning country music superstar, best-selling cookbook author and star of the Food Network series Trisha’s Southern Kitchen, Trisha Yearwood shares, “When I was growing up, my daddy would fix a big family breakfast for us on Saturday mornings. One thing he always made were his special buttermilk biscuits.” With Trisha’s signature mix, it’s easy to make down-home buttermilk biscuits that are as irresistibly light, tender and golden as the ones she loved as a child.

Ingredients

Directions

Preheat an oven to 400°F (200°C).

In a bowl, combine the biscuit mix and 3/4 cup (6 fl. oz./180 ml) of the buttermilk. Stir with a fork until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl and comes together, adding up to 1/4 cup (2 fl. oz./60 ml) more buttermilk if necessary to create a soft dough. Continue stirring until the flour is thoroughly combined.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead 3 or 4 times until smooth. Using your hands or a floured rolling pin, flatten the dough into a round about 1/2 inch (12 mm) thick.

Using a 2-inch (5-cm) biscuit cutter dipped in flour, cut out biscuits and place them on a baking sheet about 1 inch (2.5 cm) apart. Gather up the scraps, pat out again and cut out more biscuits.

Bake until the biscuits are lightly browned and firm to the touch, about 8 minutes. Serve hot. Makes 12 biscuits.
