Alex Jump, a member of the Williams Sonoma 2023 Chefs’ Collective, created this bubbly drink that’s perfect for a festive New Year’s Eve celebration. Formerly the bar manager at Death & Co. in Denver, the inspiring mixologist cofounded Focus on Health to advocate for the physical and mental well-being of the food and beverage industry. In addition to a regular spirited cocktail, Alex offers a low-ABV version featuring Three Spirits Nightcap, a nonalcoholic aperitif made with aromatic plants and herbs, plus Leitz Eins Zwei Zero Sparkling Riesling, an alcoholic-free sparkling wine.
Ingredients:
For the original cocktail:
- 1 oz. (30 ml) Hine cognac
- 1/2 oz. (15 ml) oloroso sherry
- 1/2 oz. (15 ml) fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 oz. (15 ml) simple syrup
- 1 strawberry
- Ice cubes
- 1 1/2 oz. (45 ml) Champagne
For the low-ABV version:
- 1 oz. (30 ml) oloroso sherry
- 1/2 oz. (15 ml) Three Spirits Nightcap
- 1/2 oz. (15 ml) fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 oz. (15 ml) simple syrup
- 1 strawberry
- Ice cubes
- 1 1/2 oz. (45 ml) Leitz Eins Zwei Zero Sparkling Riesling
Directions:
To make the original cocktail, in a cocktail shaker, combine the cognac, sherry, lemon juice, simple syrup and strawberry. Add ice and shake until well chilled. Strain into a Champagne flute and top with the Champagne.
To make a low-ABV version, in a cocktail shaker, combine the sherry, Three Spirits Nightcap, lemon juice, simply syrup and strawberry. Add ice and shake until well chilled. Strain into a Champagne flute and top with the Riesling.
Makes 1 drink.
