Espresso Martini
A cocktail that never goes out of style, the espresso martini is surprisingly easy to make at home if you have a good espresso machine in your kitchen (we’re partial to the Breville Bambino), high quality dark-roasted coffee beans and a few bottles of common spirits. Our version of the drink uses lemon rinds to reduce the bitterness.
Ingredients:
- 1 fl. oz. (30 ml) coffee liqueur, such as Kahlúa
- 1 fl. oz. (30 ml) freshly brewed dark roast espresso (about 1 shot), plus 3 beans for garnish
- 1 fl. oz. (30 ml) vodka or blanco tequila
- 2 fresh lemon rinds
Directions:
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add the coffee liqueur, espresso and vodka (or tequila). Express the oils of 1 lemon rind by twisting it over the shaker. Vigorously shake for about 10 seconds and strain the drink into a chilled coupe or cocktail glass. Express the second lemon rind over the drink and run the rind around the rim of the glass. Garnish with coffee beans and lemon rinds and serve immediately. Makes 1 drink.
