Kielbasa with Mustard Dip
According to best-selling cookbook author and Food Network host Ina Garten, “Sometimes you just need an appetizer fast! Friends were stopping by and I hadn’t planned a thing to serve so I went to the fridge and found some really good kielbasa sausage. I sliced it, seared it in a pan and served it—right from the pan—with a good mustard dip. They loved it!” So whether you’re entertaining unexpected guests, or you’re looking for a super-easy starter to serve while you finish up Thanksgiving dinner prep, this recipe from Garten’s book Modern Comfort Food fits the bill.
Ingredients:
- 1 1/4 lb. (625 g) smoked kielbasa (Polish sausage)
- 2 Tbs. good olive oil
- 1/2 cup (8 oz./250 g) good mayonnaise, such as Hellmann’s
- 2 Tbs. Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp. whole-grain mustard
- 1 tsp. prepared horseradish
- 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
- 1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
Directions:
Slice the kielbasa crosswise at a diagonal into pieces 1/2 inch (12 mm) thick.
Heat the olive oil in a medium (10- to 11-inch/25- to 28-cm) sauté pan, add the kielbasa and cook over medium-high heat for 5 to 6 minutes, turning occasionally, until the kielbasa is nicely browned on both sides.
Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, whole-grain mustard, horseradish, salt and pepper. Serve the kielbasa hot from the pan with small wooden skewers and the mustard sauce on the side for dipping. Serves 6 to 8.
