Non-Alcoholic Ginger, Turmeric and Lemon Tonic
Enjoy this antioxidant-rich beverage as a midday pick-me-up or an effervescent alcohol-free option during cocktail hour. We also like to sip a warm version of this drink in the morning or after dinner to promote healthy digestion. If you want to try that version, simply omit the ice cubes and sparkling water, and add hot water.
Note: Although the pinch of salt and crack of pepper are optional, we encourage you to try adding them to round out both the flavor and health benefits of this drink. The pepper enhances the healing properties of the turmeric, while the salt helps promote hydration.
Ingredients:
- Juice of 1/2 a lemon, plus 2 or 3 sliced lemon rounds for garnish
- 1 tsp. local honey or maple syrup, plus more to taste
- 1/4 tsp. peeled and grated fresh ginger
- 1/4 tsp. peeled and grated fresh turmeric, or a dash of ground turmeric
- About 3/4 cup (6 fl. oz./180 ml) sparkling water
- The slightest crack of black pepper (optional)
- Small pinch of Himalayan pink salt (optional)
Directions:
In a 12 oz. tumbler glass, add the lemon juice, honey, ginger and turmeric, as well as salt and black pepper, if desired. Using a bar spoon, give the ingredients a quick stir to combine. Add a small handful of ice and the lemon slices. Top the glass with the sparkling water. Give it a quick stir to combine and enjoy. Serves 1.
