If you’re craving a homemade dessert, try making a batch of these soft, gooey chocolate chip cookies, just like Mom used to make. Our perfect chocolate chip cookies have a tinge of caramel flavor and are studded with chocolate goodness. And here’s a tip from our test kitchen: Use a small ice cream scoop to form the balls of dough and they’ll bake into gorgeous, perfectly round cookies every time.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups (6 1/2 oz./200 g) unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick/4 oz./125 g) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup (3 1/2 oz./105 g) firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 6 Tbs. (3 oz./90 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups (15 oz./470 g) semisweet chocolate chips

Directions:

Preheat an oven to 350°F (180°C). Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.

In a bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda and salt. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer on medium speed, beat the butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar until smooth, about 2 minutes. Add the egg and vanilla and mix on low speed until blended. Slowly add the flour mixture and mix just until incorporated. Switch to a wooden spoon and stir in the chocolate chips.

Using a small ice cream scoop or heaping tablespoon, drop the dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing the dough mounds 2 inches (5 cm) apart.

Bake the cookies, 1 sheet at a time, until the bottoms and edges are lightly browned and the tops feel firm when lightly touched, 10 to 13 minutes. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer the cookies to wire racks to cool completely. Makes 10 to 12 cookies.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Grams inaccurate 1.25 cups of flour should be 150 grams not 200. Which is the correct amount for the recipe?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Make a few changes for perfect cookies Great base recipe, I love that it only makes 12 cookies so it doesn't feel like a massive chore. I made it the original way first, and then made two more batches with some changes. The first one being that I creamed my sugar and butter for 10 minutes, the second being that I refrigerated the dough for 3 hours. It made the most chewy, crisp, and flavorful cookies. 10 minutes in the oven only.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick recipe, very delicious. Super quick & easy recipe. Turned out delicious. Many reviews on here say that the amount of chocolate chips is too much, so I only used 10 oz (equals 1 & 1/4 cup). I liked it but my family said, "there is no such thing as too much chocolate chips!" So, next time I'll increase it. If you're wild about chocolate chips, follow this recipe. If you like the amount in my photo, then use 1.25 cups instead. I baked my first batch for 11 mins and I think 9 mins would have been better as they browned very quickly. My subsequent batches were fine. This yielded 30 cookies for me; I used heaped tablespoon measurement for cookies. Enjoy!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from my go-to recipe for chocolate chip cookies I have been making these cookies for years. I love that you can make them by hand and not an electrical mixer. My main feedback about this recipe is the amount of chocolate chips. 15 ounces is way way too much. I actually think somewhere around ten ounces is right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best CCCs This recipe is a keeper. My baking barometer is my husband. He loved these CCCs! When I looked at the other recipes I've made, I saw a couple of subtle ingredient changes and one big one--the chips! Any time you use more CC, it can only mean a great cookie
