The Knickerbocker Hotel in NYC is the alleged birthplace of the martini, where bartender Martini di Arma di Taggia served it to John D. Rockefeller in 1906. Legend has it that Rockefeller loved the drink and named it the “martini” after its creator.

Ingredients:

  • 2 fl. oz. (60 ml) Tanqueray No. Ten gin
  • 3/4 fl. oz. (25 ml) dry vermouth
  • 1/2 fl. oz. (14 ml) sweet vermouth
  • Dash orange bitters
  • Dash citrus bitters
  • Lemon peel, for garnish

Directions:

In a mixing glass filled with ice, combine the gin, vermouths and dashes of orange and citrus bitters. Stir until thoroughly chilled. Strain into a martini glass and garnish with the lemon peel. Serve immediately. Makes 1 drink.
