Smoky Peach Old-Fashioned
Here, the Old-Fashioned, a retro cocktail favorite, gets a twist with the addition of a grilled peach wedge and short stint in a Crafthouse Smoking Box, which infuses drinks with a savory smoky flavor. You can skip grilling the peach if you prefer, but to maximize the drink’s smoky flavor, cut a peach into six wedges, brush lightly with olive oil, and grill the wedges, cut side down, over medium heat until grill-marked, about 4 minutes per cut side. One peach makes enough wedges for 6 drinks.
Ingredients:
- 1 sugar cube
- 3 dashes peach bitters
- 1 tsp. water
- 2 oz. (60 ml) rye
- 1 grilled peach wedge (see note)
Directions:
In a double old-fashioned glass, combine the sugar cube, bitters and water. Using a muddler, crush the sugar cube until it is dissolved. Add the rye and 1 large ice cube to the glass and stir until well chilled. Garnish with the peach wedge.
Using a Crafthouse Cocktail Smoking Box according to the manufacturer’s instructions, smoke the cocktail using cedar chips until the desired amount of smokiness is achieved. Serve immediately. Makes 1 drink.
