Tips & Techniques Thanksgiving Thanksgiving Place Markers

Welcome family and friends to the table with colorful place markers. Select materials and colors that echo the centerpiece and coordinate with your linens, and also reflect the harvest palette. For formal dinners or simply to add a personal touch that diners will appreciate, consider adding individual place cards with the name of each guest.

Pocket-folded linen napkins make perfect holders for festive autumnal foliage. For a unified table, add a colorful spray of greenery or a sprig of berries from your centerpiece to tie everything together.

Cut or tear strips of seasonal wrapping paper in shades that complement your napkins. Wrap the strips around the napkins, twisting to secure on the underside. Then slide flatware under the loop and place on or beside each plate.

For a place setting with a personal touch, use a sprig of olive branch, fresh woody herbs or bundles of greenery that complement your centerpiece. Instead of using place cards, write the name of each guest on a simple name tag. Then tie a sprig or two with grosgrain ribbon or raffia and adorn each with a name tag.
